Connecticut Harbor Masters Association

The State of Connecticut Harbor Masters Association is a member driven organization numbering 30+ harbor masters and deputy harbor masters from the New York border to Rhode Island, maintaining unobstructed navigation along the entire Connecticut shoreline. 96 miles of Direct Coastline and 618 miles of coastline is used for recreation, commercial fishing, transportation and wildlife habitat, Connecticut coastal waters require proper organization and regulation.

Our Mission

Harbor Masters are the municipal guardians of the waterfront, with duties ranging from harbor management and planning, mooring and dockage management, public education to emergency search and rescue operations.

To encourage effective and uniform harbor management.

To advance the profession of Harbor Master.

To advance the knowledge and capability of Harbor Masters.

To inform and educate the general public concerning the role and responsibility of the Harbor Master.

To promote and sponsor regulation intended to enhance more effective management of Connecticut’s harbors; specifically our Harbor Management Plans for those municipalities that have them.

To coordinate and encourage communication among and between Harbor Masters and local, State, and Federal agencies, as well as Harbor Management Commissions.
